Toonies for Terry

Kylie Duval has just finished the Terry Fox Run.  She high fives a few classmates as she crosses the line.  Kylie is in Ms. Johnson's Grade 1 at Sacred Heart School in LaSalle.  Kylie's class is very proud of her. She raised $110 for Cancer Research in Terry's name by making and selling balloon animals.  When asked where that idea came from she said, "Ms. Johnson taught us about Terry Fox. When I saw the balloon kit in the Scholastic book order it gave me the idea. Clarol the Clown taught me how to make balloon animals at my birthday party ".

Kylie's friends think it was a great idea. Many of her classmates bought balloon dogs from her.  "It was a nice thing", said Caitlin.  "She inspired people like Terry Fox", said Brandon.  "Kylie's parents told me that she came up with the idea all by herself. Everyone is very proud of her", said Ms. Johnson.

After the run, Kylie said " The Terry Fox run was fun. I was tired, but I wanted to be just like Terry." Her teacher and classmates thinks she is on the right track.

Millions of students across Canada take part in Terry Fox School Runs every year, making it one of the largest fundraising events in Canadian history.  Sacred Heart school collected over $560.00 on our day to honour Terry Fox.  We had to delay our walks due to the soggy weather, however, we joined Terry in his fight for the cure on Friday.
