The Gabe Giving Tree...

Gabe D, one of our grade 8 students came up with the idea of giving back to the community for the Christmas season.  He has asked that families from our school donate warm winter gear (socks, hats, gloves, etc.) to people in need.  All donations will be given to our Downtown Mission.  Way to go Drake!  Let's continue to pay it forward!

Nerdie Birdies

The Sacred Heart Nerdie Birdies took flight again this past Saturday. They competed in the  2nd annual FLL Robotics Competition at St. Clair College. The field this year was 24 teams strong. The theme of this year's competition was World Class Learning. The challenge was to come up with an innovative approach to teaching. Our Nerdie Birdies come up with a great idea, put it into practice, and then presented it on Saturday in front of a panel of judges. They also had to present their robot design and participate in a core values surprise challenge. They spent the afternoon running our robot through various missions to accumulate points. All in all it was a successful day. We finished in the middle of the pack but improved on our showing from last year. Way to go Nerdie Birdies!
Check out this link to see our robot in action:

Attention Parents:

November  18 , 2014

Dear Parents,

A recently concluded system survey has determined that the communities of LaSalle and Amherstburg  have expressed a strong interest in expanded French Immersion programming in their area.

While no decisions have been made, feedback from those surveys, public consultation with parents, potential enrolment figures and a site feasibility study will help us determine whether to provide French Immersion programming in your area.

To that end, a public consultation meeting for all interested parents of children who will attend Junior Kindergarten, Senior Kindergarten or Grade One next  September, 2015 will be held on Monday, Nov. 24th at 6:30 p.m. at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church at 9399 Townline Rd.,  River Canard.
The change in location is due to St. Thomas of Villanova's Awards Banquet occurring on the same evening with limited parking.

This evening's public consultation will include:

  • An overview of the Early French Immersion program offered by the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board
  • An opportunity for you to provide additional input to assist us in gathering information as part of the system French Immersion feasibility study
Consultation feedback from these meetings will be summarized for further review by our Senior Administration and Board of Trustees.

We hope that you will be able to attend this important meeting.

Dear Sacred Heart Families,
We are excited to launch our Fall/Winter Fundraiser and we hope you will not only support, but can make use of, as we head toward the holiday season. This fundraiser makes an amazing gift idea, it's "Truly the Gift that keeps on Giving" all year long.
We are selling the 2015 Windsor's Bestseller coupon books packed with thousands of dollars in savings which gives everyone who supports us, a great return on their investment. This book has an enormous amount of valuable 2 for 1 coupons including Adventure Bay Water Park as well as other fantastic offers on dining, sports and entertainment.
For the first families that order the book, we are also offering the 2014 Windsor Best Seller Book which has more savings that are valid through March of 2015. This means that you will receive two amazing books for $40.00 (limited supply of the 2014 book).
If you only used the~"FREE OFFERS"~like a free birthday dinner at The Gourmet Emporium worth $25, a free Migun massage at Be Well, and free passes for golf and bumper cars at Colosanti's , to name a few. These free offers alone would have paid for your book and helped our school raise $15 per book sold.
Each family will receive 1 book and an order form to take additional orders. Orders will be delivered to the school well before the holidays! PLEASE NOTE:  Each book has been shrink wrapped, please don't remove the wrap unless you want to buy book. "If you buy one, then you can use that book to show to others"
We will be sending home order forms for our other exciting fundraising options including cookie dough and Debs Dips which are both fantastic products for the holiday season!

Parent Consent for PALS

Dear Parents,
The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, is offering our Grade 3 and 4 students an opportunity to refine and master their basic numeracy skills, while participating in an evidence-based numeracy program called Numeracy PALS (Peer Assisted Learning Strategies in Math).
This tutoring initiative is being offered as a voluntary after school program at no cost to parents.  Your child will receive additional mathematics support, by a trained tutor, under the supervision of one of our staff members.  Tutors will be delivering the Numeracy PALS program, which focuses on the basic computational skills we know are essential to students' mathematical success.  This is not intended to be a "homework club".
The tutoring sessions will take place two afternoons a week for 45 minutes.  They will be offered Mon./Wed. OR Tues./Thurs., dependent upon preference, tutor availability and the number of interested participants.  The sessions will begin immediately after school in the library, and will be conducted by our post-secondary trained tutors and supervised by one of our own staff members.
The Fall session is six weeks in length, with a total of 12 lessons.  The Fall session is scheduled from October 20 – November 28, 2014.
Please take a moment to review the attached flyer for more information about the program.  Once again, we are very excited to offer this free enrichment opportunity for your child.
Please express your interest by completing the bottom portion of this letter, and return it to school no later than Friday, October 10th, 2014.  You will be contacted with further information and details.
