St. Vincent de Paul Update (Peanut Butter)

November 28, 2013-11-28

Parents/ Guardians,

The St Vincent de Paul society will be picking the peanut butter up on Monday December 2, 2013. Thanks to all the families who so generously donated to this worthy cause. A jar of peanut butter and bread goes a long way for a family.

Please be aware that we are still a peanut free school and refrain from sending in items that contain nuts or peanuts.

Thanks again for your continuous generosity.

November 25th, 2013

Dear Parents,

Thank you for allowing your child to participate in our Math PALS program.  This program has proven to be a great success for all students involved.  Just a reminder that the fall session is coming to an end, and the last session is this Wednesday November 27th, 2013.  Information will be going home shortly for our winter session registration.  Thank you for your support.

Dear Parents,
The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, is offering our Grade 3 and 4 students an opportunity to refine and master their basic numeracy skills, while participating in an evidence-based numeracy program called Numeracy PALS (Peer Assisted Learning Strategies in Math).
This tutoring initiative is being offered as a voluntary after school program at no cost to parents.  Your child will receive additional mathematics support, by a trained tutor, under the supervision of one of our staff members.  Tutors will be delivering the Numeracy PALS program, which focuses on the basic computational skills we know are essential to students' mathematical success.  This is not intended to be a "homework club".
The tutoring sessions will take place two afternoons a week for 45 minutes.  They will be offered Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.  The sessions will begin immediately after school in the library, and will be conducted by our post-secondary trained tutors and supervised by one of our own staff members.
The WINTER session is six weeks in length, with a total of 12 lessons.  The Winter session is scheduled from January 7– February 14, 2014.
Please take a moment to review the attached flyer for more information about the program.  Once again, we are very excited to offer this free enrichment opportunity for your child.
Please express your interest by completing the bottom portion of this letter, and return it to school no later than Monday, December 16, 2013.

November 18, 2013
Dear Parents:

The Bookworm Club will resume on Tuesday, December 3rd, 2013 for students in grade One and Two.  The Club will focus on reading children's novels for the enjoyment of our students.  It is organized and carried out by a dedicated group of Parent Volunteers.  Within the program are added features such as book draws, gifts and the occasional nutritious treats.  This program cannot run properly without parent volunteers from each grade.

The Bookworm Club will meet each Tuesday for grade 1 and 2 during the lunch recess (11:39 a.m. – 12:19 p.m.) under the guidance of
Mrs. Bortolin.  When the weather permits, students will occasionally listen to the novel outdoors.

Tech News...

Dear Parents/Guardians:

The Windsor Essex Catholic District Board's (WECDSB) Integrated Technology Strategy is focused on the following objectives: assisting staff and students to collaborate on new initiatives;fostering critical thinking skills when faced with a challenge; and enhancing individual creativity in the learning process. Essentially, the goal is for staff and students to become curators of knowledge who efficiently and effectively communicate responsibly in the digital world.
One of the main learning tools to reach our objective is MyTools2Go, the Board's version of Google Apps for Education. This is a cloud based production tool that provides equal access to a suite of online applications that support the delivery and learning of curriculum. These tools are available for free, any time, anywhere and on any device that is connected to the internet. The Board has run several pilots and will now begin to roll this tool out for staff and student use on a larger scale. Students will receive access as teachers integrate technology to support Ministry curriculum. MyTools2Go accounts are managed by the Board and are not the property of individual students. MyTools2Go accounts have been created for students in grades 312. Staff and students are supported in this initiative by a team of technology experts.

Key Features of MyTools 2Go:
Cloud Storage Space (5GB) Spreadsheets
Presentations Email
Web Page / EPortfolios
Drawing / Flowcharting
Word Processing Organization Calendar

Parents/Guardians will be notified when teachers integrate these tools in their learning
environments. Please contact your child's classroom teacher if you have any questions or

Halloween Fun!

Getting in the Spirit of Halloween!
This  31st day of October the grade 4 music/media students were on the road with a presentation of song and poem!  They sang "Haunted House" and recited "In a Dark Woods" to students of various grades!
