Did you know that "Literacy", like all language learning begins at birth?  It is a continuous process beginning in the home with you as a parent, playing a key role as the guide along the road.

Please take a moment to read the benefits of reading to your child on a daily basis:

  • Reading leads to internalization and interests in books;
  • Reading increases a desire to read;
  • Reading frees students from decoding handicaps, allowing them to concentrate on understanding the story;
  • Reading improves listening skills;
  • Reading exposes children to a variety of literary styles, which they may experiment with when writing;
  • Reading promotes understanding of story elements: characters, settings,
problem/adventures and conclusion/endings;
  • Reading introduces children to information about their world;
  • And most importantly, story time is an opportunity to curl up together and enjoy each other's company!!
Please read to your child on a daily basis.  You will soon recognize the fruits of your labours!

Kiss'n Ride...

Kiss'n Ride Program
We look forward to our Kiss'n Ride Program continuing this year.  The morning drop off time is between 8:10 – 8:25 a.m on Divine St.  The safety of your children is our greatest concern and we ask for your co-operation, patience and courtesy during the peak periods of the day on Divine Street.  Please do not use the church parking lot.

Kiss'n Ride Volunteers Needed
Volunteers are urgently needed.  Without parents like you Kiss'n Ride cannot continue.  If you can spare even one morning per week from 8:00 – 8:25 Kiss'n Ride will be able to continue to provide a safe drop off place for the children of Sacred Heart School.  Call Karen at 519-978-3917 or the school at 519-734-1255 if you can assist with this program.

Peanut Aware...

Thank you for supporting us in keeping Sacred Heart School a safe place for children with peanut allergies.  We ask for your continued support throughout the school year in keeping Sacred Heart a Peanut Aware/Educated environment.

Project TLC

Over the past three years, Sacred Heart families have been the primary contributors to Project TLC.  Janet Janisse, a retired teacher from our system, continues to need our help. She and other retired teachers make up gift baskets for people who are in the care of a variety of non-profit organizations in the Windsor-Essex County area. Would you please search your closets and drawers for any of the following unused and unopened items:        
  • hotel shampoos, soap, etc.
  • cosmetic samples
  • toothbrushes
  • travel sized care products
  • cologne, aftershave samples
  • lotions

A few Reminders...

  • Student Registration Verification forms will be  going home. (Please make necessary changes and return to classroom teacher by Friday, September 16th.)
  • Students will need $5.00 to purchase their school agenda.  The Student/Parent Handbook is included in the agenda.  Please read this over with your child. Please submit monies to the classroom teacher.  The agenda is used as a communication tool between the parent and teacher.  Any notes from parent to teacher should be put in the agenda.

  • Absence from School – In the best interest of your children's safety, we are asking that the school be contacted before 8:25 a.m. if your son or daughter is going to be absent or late.  You can leave a message on the school's answering machine by calling
519-734-1255 (24hrs).  

  • Students must know after school arrangements prior to their arrival to school.
  • Students are not allowed to wear Heelies at school.  Rollerblading, bicycling and skateboarding are not allowed on school property.
  • Students must wear a bicycle helmet when riding their bicycles to school. Please encourage your children to use a bicycle lock, as the school is not responsible for stolen bicycles.


Many students move in or out of the area throughout the summer months. This has a direct impact on school staffing. Please be advised that your child's classroom teacher may be subject to change until the end of September. Currently our classroom sizes are quite large which opens up the possibility of the addition of another teacher or staff member. Please keep in mind that we strive to keep these changes to a minimum.

First Day of School Protocol:

Designated Areas for the first day of school:

If the weather is cooperative:
1) Grades 4 to 8 meet in court yard, yard B. The grades will be posted on the wall. Students are
to meet at their grade level.
2) Grades 1 to 3 will meet in the gym with teachers. The grade levels will be posted on the
wall. Students please stand near their grade number. Teachers will have the rosters and will
call out the names.
3) SK will meet in the JK/SK penned in are. SK students will hopefully already have been
notified either by phone or by synervoice as to who their teacher will be.
4) Dismissal for JK and SK will be from the penned in area. At dismissal parents will wait
outside for their children.
5) JK staggered start, parents come in with the students on their day.

Rain Procedures:
1) If it rains, grade 6, 7 and 8 will meet in the senior hall, grade 5 will meet in the library and
grade 4 will meet in the gym with the grade 1, 2 and 3's. SK will meet in the JK/SK classroom
2) Hope you all had a restful summer and are eager and ready to return to school.
3) Also a reminder that school starts at 8:25 am . Five extra minutes to sleep in!

Dear Parents/Guardians,

On behalf of the entire staff, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you back to another exciting school year at Sacred Heart Catholic School - Proud home of the Cardinals!! I trust that you had a restful and enjoyable summer. It is wonderful to be here and in partnership, we will venture forth with great optimism united by our shared beliefs for the future of our community. My warmest greetings are extended to all new and returning families of our school community. All members of the staff are anticipating the start of a new school year with much enthusiasm. The custodial team has worked very hard scrubbing, polishing and shining to prepare for a new year. The school looks GREAT!!!!

Morning Entrance – 8:25 a.m.
Morning Recess – 10:28 a.m.  
Lunch – 11:23 a.m.
Lunch Recess - 11:43 a.m.

Afternoon Entrance - 12:23 p.m.
Afternoon Recess – 2:00 p.m.
Bus Dismissal - 2:55 p.m. 
Walker Dismissal - 3:00pm

School Hours

School Hours & Attendance (519) 734-1255. Your child's regular and timely attendance at school is of the utmost importance. If your child is going to be late or absent from school for any reason, you MUST contact the office at 519-734-1255. Please know that there is an answering machine to take messages 24 hrs/day 7 days/week. It is very important that students be at school on time. Please help us to work towards reducing the amount of late students entering the office/school after the bell. Thanks for your support!
